If you’ve never heard of Kamalame Cay, well, neither had I.
The flight on the seaplane into Kamalame Cay was a distinguishable experience. As a former flight attendant flying has been a huge part of my life…but entering this topical paradise by seaplane set the tone for the incredible love story ahead. I hopped off the plane into crystal teal water. Within two minutes time of arriving on the island, in true Katie fashion, I nearly hit my head on the wing of the seaplane. You would too if you saw these colors surrounding you. I was in complete awe.
The sand beneath my feet reminded me of sandcastles on the shore, a playground for the young. Sand, a symbol of life, a metaphor for change, and a reminder of time's passage is becoming to Alix & David’s crossing of paths. Let me explain.
David actually found Kamalame Cay when he was flying for fun around the Bahamas after he acquired his private Pilates license. David brought Alix here on a group couples trip when they were “just friends.” That trip would become the first of many. They arrived as friends and left with healing soon on the horizon.
It made sense for this free spirited couple to get married island style. David being from Louisiana and loving the great outdoors and all things fishing. Notably, in 2023 Alix will become one of the top 10 classical Pilates Trainers in the world under the Joseph Pilate’s elders/lineage. Her recent entrepreneurial endeavor is an exclusive wellness retreat company in unique locations, so it’s no surprise her wedding was on this beautiful private island in the Bahamas where things came full circle.
Needless to say the time I ended up spending with the Longs was nothing short of what some would describe as being a spiritual experience.
Alix & David met after both experiencing the painful passing of their first spouses. As a huge part of their story, the inner work they both had to do after recent life events is tangible to those around them. You don’t go through hardship without being deeply changed. I left their wedding and presence with a deep appreciation of the brevity of life. I would describe this couple as being “woke” as Alix would put it.
Combining two families after tragedy takes unparalleled character from both parties. As healing and grief encompass the ebbs & flows of their journey gratitude radiates this version of a modern day brady bunch.
